The church fights everyone as it dies — blinding smoke, backdrafts, a roof with opinions — and Father Lucian turns out to keep a mace under the altar. Then the back doors explode, two vampires land prone on the flagstones — thrown — and behind them comes Izek, arm ablaze, guards at his back. We watch the Baron’s attack dog learn that his men have names he knows, take a vampire by the head, keep a promise about teeth — and walk out of the fire with a crack through everything he has ever believed: “The Baron promised me. Evil can’t come into Vallaki.” Six came out of that coffin shop; all six are dust. It is not enough. The church cannot be saved; a statuette can. Then the worst sentence of the day, from a barman in despair: Ireena is gone. Ernst invited her. So we go into Wachterhaus after her, hooded among a hundred refugees, and find a cellar with a pentagram that is lying, a ward that is not, and a man whose name we never learned. We climb past the bitten who do not look like they are merely wounded, to a hallway of judging portraits: a moaning door, No admittance, and an enormous map of Barovia that Drew is cramming into memory as the record stops. This is the highest floor we know about. Stay past the credits.
