Where: Vallaki, a walk from St. Andral’s Church — the church’s orphanage, kept by Headmistress Claudia and the groundskeeper Milivoj.
Status: Demon-free as of Session 8. We are, at time of writing, still standing in it, mid-interrogation.
First visited: Session 8, the morning after Roger’s tale — looking for a bone thief.
What we found instead
- Milivoj — not a thief at his desk but a victim in a sickbed: a month under a necromantic curse, three days unrousable, healing sliding off him like rain.
- Three boys missing ~a week — Lazlo, Hans, and Franz, fled (Claudia believes) in terror of Felix. Milivoj, sick as he was, came into some money and hired two hunters to find them. They are out searching now.
- A dead child — Cedric, pushed from a window a month ago.
- Runes on every upstairs bedpost — faint, necromantic, Infernal for “Mine.” Scratch one out and its magic dies; the children have been set to work on their own beds, which they will enjoy.
- And in the padlocked attic: Mostly Felix.
The state of the house (end of Session 8)
The demon is in the locket. Felix — just a boy again — sleeps in the attic; we promised the children we’d come back for him. The kids are safe in the garden. Claudia is our ally (and is sensibly double-checking our story with Father Lucian). Milivoj is awake, curse-broken, and denying he ever touched any bones — which was the entire reason we came.
