Who: “Granny” — an old woman selling meat pies off a rickety cart. Lives with her sisters in a mill outside the village, or so she says.
Where: Met in the Village of Barovia. The mill is out there somewhere.
Status: Presumably still selling pies.
First met: Session 4 — the first person in Barovia to speak to us at all.
What we know
- Her pies smell incredible and taste better than anything from home. One gold each — dear, but each is two days’ food and keeps sixteen days.
- Asked what’s in them, she said only: “protein,” and “they’re special.” Sirius tried to read her and got nothing — which is itself worth noting.
- She named us “mist walkers,” and warned that when our sort appear, Strahd takes a closer interest.
- To be fair to her: she taught us the one mushroom in Barovia that’s actually safe to eat.
The worry
Lily ate one. That night: vivid, hallucinatory dreams, bright and overwhelming, gone on waking. She woke ravenous and tore into a second pie without a word — and has now done so twice, without noticing herself do it. The craving is growing, not fading. Drew checked her over: it’s not nothing.
Until we know what’s in them: nobody eats another pie. See Quests & Threads.
Open questions
- What is actually in the pies?
- Who are the “sisters,” and what happens at that mill?
- Why could Sirius read nothing from her?
