The moaning door
Session 12’s record ends with something moaning behind a door on the highest floor we knew about. Session 13 opened it: a young woman, unresponsive, cared for — and Ireena at her side, keeping vigil. Not a monster, not a prisoner in chains, not the source of any of the house’s other horrors. Just the worst thing Barovia makes: a person something happened to.
What was done to her
The story arrived in pieces across five sessions — her brothers’ “Victor, he did stuff to her. He must have” at the inn; her mother’s commission to prove it; the missing half hour of Sirius; the missing two days of Fëanor. And then, at the festival, it stopped being a story anyone could contain: Lady Wachter said it from the fountain’s lip, to the entire mandatory crowd — “the Baron’s son abused Stella” — with the Reformation Center “twisting the minds of the citizenry” named in the same breath.
Three years ago she was betrothed to Victor Vallakovich — a match her mother arranged. She came back from that house like this. We have now met, personally, what an afternoon in that family’s care does to a mind. She got years.
What we owe her
Nothing, formally. The commission died months of ledger-pages ago. And yet: the party seeded — back at the dinner, before everything — that we would come back and try to heal her. The abbot above Krezk is said to heal bodies and minds. The list of reasons to go west keeps growing, and she is quietly on it.
