Notes from the Ravens
Two notes left in our locked room at the Blue Water Inn. The first said Lady Wachter's raven was no raven. The second told us to prove ourselves.
The first note
We came back to the Blue Water from dinner at Wachterhaus, where Sirius's Divine Sense had just found a fiend sitting on Lady Wachter's shoulder, and found this in the middle of our bedroom floor. The door had been locked and the windows shut. It was passed round, not read aloud. Sirius sat down on the floor with his head in his hands, mostly from relief.
Do not take the fact that Lady Wachter keeps a pet raven as a sign that she is supported by the Ravens of Barovia. That being is no true raven.
The Ravens of Barovia
We counted the word raven four times, admired the penmanship, and wondered how a raven holds a pen. The Ravens of Barovia were a union, or a monarchy with a Raven Lord, or not ravens at all. Sirius wrote back that night. The reply opened "Dear Ravens of Barovia, firstly, might I note how cool your name is?", thanked them for the note, told them we were going to the lake in a day or two, and asked for a meeting. After some debate it was signed "From us". We left it where their note had been, and Drew set an Alarm over it.
The second note
The Alarm went off the next day while we were out. By the time we got up to the room there was a flutter, the window was open, our reply had gone, and a different piece of paper lay on the floor.
Trust is hard. Want to prove yourselves.
That afternoon Urwin Martikov, who runs the inn and has the keys, stood in our room and observed that things just flutter in if you leave your window open. Not long after, he turned into a raven-man in front of us. Roger told us on our first night in Vallaki not to kill the ravens. We have since upgraded that to never harming one.
