The board over the bar at the silent tavern in the village of Barovia, where we first realised what Granny had charged us for pie.
The board hanging in the Blood on the Vine, the tavern where we met Ismark on our first afternoon in the village. The same board carried a house rule: "Dogs welcome. Children must be kept on a leash."
One look at the prices told us we had paid Granny a whole gold piece each for pies. Sirius put a gold on the bar so that Ismark's table could eat and drink its fill: pitchers of wine, meatloaf and a loaf of potato bread. Those of us already full of pie found the tavern food dull by comparison. We know why now.
