Who: A very old man at a corner table of The Blue Water Inn. In Urwin’s words: “what remains of the previous set of Mistwalkers.”

Where: The Blue Water Inn, Vallaki. He seems to be a fixture.

Status: Waiting. The wine is bought. We begin at his table.

First seen: Session 7 — staring at the five of us, white as a sheet, as if the mists themselves had walked through the door.

What we know

Almost nothing — which is precisely why this page exists.

  • He is the last survivor of the last group the mists ever carried into Barovia — people like us, a lifetime ago, when Urwin was “a wee lad.” There were others once. There is only Roger now.
  • Everyone still calls those years the bad times. Nobody has explained what that means, and nobody smiled while not explaining it.
  • Barovians hold that the presence of Mistwalkers is an ill omen — a sign of challenge coming to the land. Urwin, apologetically: “That is apparently what happened. I hope it doesn’t happen again. I hope it was just a coincidence.”
  • He looked at us the way you look at ghosts. Not strangers — ghosts.

Open questions

  • What happened to the previous Mistwalkers? Are we walking their road?
  • Why is he still here, decades later — and still alive, in a land where that seems to be against policy?
  • What does he know about the devil, the mists, and the way out — and what will one glass of wine buy?
