Who: A hound of the Village of Barovia; Mary’s dog, missing for weeks before we found him.
Status: Home safe with Mary. The dog is not on the table. It was never on the table.
First met: Session 1, under the harpsichord.
The tale of Lancelot
- Found starving, trapped beneath a harpsichord in Death House, collar reading “Lancelot.” Fed at once. Befriended forever.
- Lily spoke with him: the world had gone grey and scentless, and he had seen a tall figure he could see straight through — our first hint of the house’s ghosts.
- He would not stop barking at the mirror bedroom’s full-length mirror. He was right about that too. Good dog.
- When the house demanded a living sacrifice — any living thing — and thirteen robed apparitions chanted over an altar, Lancelot was standing right there. The party’s position was unanimous and is now a matter of permanent record: no. (Drew’s exact priorities: “I’d rather sacrifice a baby than the dog.”)
- Back in the village, Ismark knew him at once, and we returned him to Mary — one purely good deed in a bad country.
